Just come across Derelict Places. Very interesting. Re: Reighton - I have been going there man and boy for well over 60 years. I have a bungalow on the cliff top overlooking the site that is intriguing the posters.

I can advise that the railway lines are simply concrete reinforcement for the slipway down to the beech from the old gravel extraction plant that have only becom apparent since the road crumbled.

The sand and gravel was loaded by mobile tracked crane and loaded into small front tipping dumper trucks. These took the material to the washing plant part way up the cliff. The sand was washed out and dumped back into the sea. The gravel was taken away by Toulsons of Doncaster. As a young lad We used to get rides up from the beech on the dumpers. Magic for young lads. 'Elf and Safety would be apoplectic these days. Miserable sods.

If you Google The Francis Frith Collection site there are half a dozen photos of the Reighton holiday site before the bungalows were demolished and one taken from just above the plant looking towards Speeton. This shows the cafe in the foreground, buildings to the left and the plant is just out of view. The pillbox is at a precarious angle on the edge of the cliff edge above the slipway leading down to the beech.

We might even have crossed paths all those years ago. Doncaster is my home town and as a student I worked in the Salutation, an old coaching inn. Toulson's office was about 50 yards from the front door and I got to know old man Toulson very well, as he always dropped in for a lunch time and early evening drink. From this friendship I was allowed to visit his Sprotborough quarry, where he had stored a number of the early vehicles that were used to start the business. There were about six in various states of preservation, WW1 3 ton subsidy vehicles by Thornycroft, Albion, Tilling Stevens and at least one US 'Liberty' Standard B. We had plans to get one back on the road, but a change of educational establishment and then employment with BR in Derby meant that I lost close touch for some time. By the time I came back to Doncaster, the old man had become very ill and no longer took an active part in the business. Sadly he died not long after and the Sprotborough quarry was abandoned and used for dumping old equipment. The biggest criminal act was then carried out by the new owners of the site some five or six years later, when they scrapped everything in the quarry. The gas axe struck before anybody in the know about the relics could act - sad after all those years being stored safely out of harms way.

last week end in reighton sands... beautifull place

I'm not sure how relevant this is because I don't have time to do research on reighton but many beach installations that I've seen had small gauge rails to wheel ammo loaded gurneys along to get ammo to different parts of the installation.

It will be great to see your photos, I look forward to them. Thanks for the feed back on my site, glad you have enjoyed it. I must make the effort and return, I want to find G3 before the remains are gone forever.
