Just one today from our group trip across to Europe. I had spent several months tracking down sites to see for us and despite some being fully shuttered we were lucky enough to get some really good explores in and also witness a train giving birth to an Urbexer !!!
Thanks go out to Bikinglynn who was running slightly ahead of us on his way to Belgium as he confirmed two of our sites were a no go and two more, including this one had access.
It was rather surreal he had left at 5am and here we were around the midday mark, having left at around 8am bumoing into him for a quick chat at another stunning site. Much is made of sites like the Re-Education centre that sole purpose was to indoctrinate the populous, however it was far from the only method used. The GDR constructed these Kulturhaus' anywhere there was a centre of production, mines, steelworks etc as a "gift" to the workers to enjoy films and entertainment with their families. Needless to say these films and performances would be nothing more than a method to reinforce the idealogy of the ruling party.

This place was stunning and you can just imagine people walking around it at performances etc.

Strangely, the design reminds me of some of the more grand Odeon cinemas. They were also meant to take us away from our "drab, weary lives" (a Tom Lehrer quote) to the fictions that Hollywood created.
Of course the more grand churches were meant to do the same thing. Perhaps that is why - even when derelict - they still have that ability.
